A Fez ceramic vase palmette pattern built on classic borders
This Fez ceramic vase palmette design pairs two of the oldest motifs in Moroccan pottery: a woven interlace border and a mirrored palmette panel. Artisans shape each vase by hand on a traditional potter’s wheel. They paint every band and panel afterward, working freehand rather than from a stencil. Because of this, the exact width of each woven strand varies slightly from vase to vase, a small trace of the hand that painted it.
Design details
Two matching bands of blue-and-gold interlace weaving frame the body, one just below the shoulder and one near the base. Between them, vertical yellow columns divide the surface into panels, each filled with a cross-hatched lattice and a mirrored teal palmette motif accented in red. The neck carries its own smaller pattern, a ring of blue triangles beneath a rim dotted in teal, red, and yellow. This kind of woven interlace border appears across Moroccan decorative arts, from pottery to zellige tilework and traditional craftsmanship found throughout Fez’s medina.
Styling this vase at home
A Fez ceramic vase palmette piece like this one works especially well as a focal point, since the layered borders and central panel reward a closer look. Set it on a console table, a bookshelf, or beside a reading chair where the detail is visible at eye level. It also pairs naturally with warm neutrals and woven textures, letting the blue and gold tones stand out. As with the rest of the collection, it makes a considered gift for someone who appreciates handmade craft over mass-produced decor.
