This clay lamp with an African tribal design is a true representation of authenticity, simplicity, and warmth. Immerse your home in the vibrant energy of Africa with this unique lamp, handcrafted by Moroccan artisans from natural clay in the Atlas Mountains of Morocco.

The lamp's surface is adorned with a stunning tribal design. It features a rich palette of colors that showcases the essence of African culture. This eye-catching piece is more than just a lamp; it's a conversation starter and a beautiful tribute to Moroccan artistry.

Crafting these lamps is similar to all clay craftsmanship in Morocco. It is made with a traditional method that often relies on skilled handcrafting and the following steps:

  1. Preparing the Clay: Artisans use local clay because it is known for its high quality. They crush and soak it in water for several days to soften it up.
  2. Shaping the Clay: After drying, artisans knead the clay thoroughly, traditionally with feet and hands, to remove any air bubbles or lumps. This prepares the clay for shaping.
  3. Throwing or Molding: The potter then uses a potter's wheel to throw the clay into the desired form, like the round shape of this lamp. Alternatively, molds can be used for more complex shapes.
  4. Trimming and Smoothing: After shaping the lamp, the artisan then trims and smoothes it to refine its form and ensure a clean finish.
  5. Drying and First Firing: The lamp is then left to dry completely, sometimes for days. Then, it goes into a kiln for its first firing at high temperatures to solidify its shape.
  6. Painting: Artisans hand-paint it in white to create a colorful contrast. They then draw by hand the African tribal designs and patterns onto the clay using bold colors and traditional motifs.
