This pillow is handwoven by Moroccan local artisans using traditional weaving looms. The pompoms on the sides were originally a technique to assemble the leftovers of yarns after weaving the core of the pillow, which later turned into its main embellishing feature.
Yarn weaving is a traditional heritage that Amazigh women transmit to their daughters. Every tribe in the Moroccan Atlas mountains has its secrets in weaving pillows, rugs, blankets, and even clothes. These secrets are not shared with other tribes in order to conserve the attribution of this art-making to their tribe. Amazigh women also embed in their work specific signs or letters from their language that have meaning and relate to a story.
