A Fez ceramic vase teardrop pattern with a pointed frame

This Fez ceramic vase teardrop design centers on a pointed, arch-shaped medallion rather than a simple circle, giving the pattern more height and movement than a rounder motif would. Artisans shape each vase by hand on a traditional potter’s wheel, then paint the design afterward in a single freehand pass. Because nothing is stencilled, the exact taper of each teardrop frame varies slightly from piece to piece.

Design details

At the center of the teardrop sits a small rosette, four deep red petals around a single gold dot, echoed in scrollwork detail around the edge of the teal frame. Above and below the medallion, clusters of dotted blue florals fill triangular panels bordered in gold, and a narrow neck band repeats the same red, blue, and gold coloring in miniature. The pointed arch shape draws on the same decorative vocabulary as Moroccan zellige and traditional pottery, where arch and dome forms recur across architecture as well as ceramics.
